A rather poor design decision, using as few seals as possible, seems to allow this pump's little seal to break down and allow air to enter the blade area through the shaft, causing cavitation (as it starts to only swirl air around, and not move water). And, since this is nearly the only part in the system that doesn't permit disassembly without destroying the pump, your only option is to replace it!
Sure enough, this did the trick. Cleaner now works great again, and as long as the owner doesn't continue to store the cleaner with soap in the lines, it should continue to work fine. Speaking of which, I should give them a call...
