Whats to say... the filter fits nice and tight and catches the small dust.
Buy one today... replace your filter every 3 months for better air quality.
We noticed our vacuum started to get a bit of a "dog smell" to it and replacing the original filter (after almost a year of use) fixed that issue.

I have a Bissell vacuum cleaner that takes Style 7 bags. The grocery store that I go to doesn't carry them, so instead of making a special trip, I decided to order them online. These bags fit pefectly in my vacuum and the suction seemed great. They do what they're supposed to do.

Bissell Flip-t Bare Floor Cleaner, 5200 Review

Bissell Flip-t Bare Floor Cleaner, 5200
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have 3 large dogs that drool any water left in their mouths after a drink, and a large textured ceramic floor that collects dirt in the grooves of the texture. I bought a Hoover Floor-mate in hopes of eliminating the mop and bucket, and because I felt that after a while I was pushing around dirty water. The Floor-mate did pick up a lot of dirt, but it is too large to get under cabinets and the brushes are too soft and too high to get into the crevices of the texture in the ceramic.
I decided to try the Flip-It because it is supposed to vacuum and wash the floor. First of all, you really have to vacuum first and clean the receptacle before washing. Otherwise, you will end up with a yucky mess to clean from the receptable and filter. I didn't find that the vacuum blew the hair as one other buy had reported, but I agree that it doesn't vacuum very well. It picked up some hair and small crumbs, but didn't get all of it. This was obvious when I washed the floor. More hair was picked up in the washing process.
With the rubber brush and a little pressure, this cleaner did get much more of the dirt out of the floor texture. I still had to scrub some with the brush on the unit, but I would have to do the same with a sponge mop. At least with this cleaner, the dirty water is vacuumed up and clean solution is dispensed for the next section. Even with my uneven floor, the unit did pick up the water, and the floor dried quickly.
The first floor bathroom, hall, kitchen, and foyer are pretty large, kitchen alone is about 12' x 18'. I had to refill the cleaner 3 times. I filled the unit with hot water from the tap. So maybe that helped. I don't think this is too bad because I had to refill the Floor-mate as many times and it didn't get the floor as clean.
I wouldn't use this unit as a vacuum again, but as a hard floor cleaner, I think it works well on floors that need more scrubbing than a soft brush.

Combining power with versatility, this bare-floor cleaner features three modes of cleaning--dry vacuum, wet vacuum, and drying. A fingertip trigger control dispenses the cleaning solution, while its floating soft-scrub brush and interchangeable pad, which are machine washable, allow for cleaning various types of floor surfaces. Lightweight at just 8 pounds, this self-standing upright unit is designed with a low-profile head, which makes it easier to access hard-to-reach areas like under beds, couches, and other furniture. Other convenient features include simple drop-in tanks, one-screw quick assembly, and a 22-foot power cord for easy maneuverability. Two trial-size Bissell chemical solutions are included. This safe and powerful floor cleaner measures 7-1/2 by 11-1/4 by 44 inches and carries a one-year limited parts-and-labor warranty.
Wet or Dry Begin by using the dry side to vacuum crumbs, pet hair, and other dirt and debris. When the unit is flipped around, and the handle tilted back, the Gentle Clean brush is automatically lowered for wet cleaning. When the formula trigger is squeezed, water and formula are dispensed on the floor. A Gentle Clean brush or pad cleans the floor, while the squeegee and suction leave the floor dry and ready to walk on.
Unlike other hard floor cleaners, the Flip-It can be customized for different flooring types with its interchangeable Gentle Clean brushes and cleaning pads. The Gentle Clean brush is designed for use on surfaces such as tile, slate or hard floors with grout or crevices where dirt and grime collect. While the Gentle Clean pad is perfect for use on more delicate surfaces such as sealed hardwood, laminates or vinyl. The Flip-It can safely be used on virtually all hard floor surfaces in your home such as vinyl, ceramic, laminates, slate and sealed hardwood. It is not intended for use on carpeting.
Easy to Use The Flip-It hard floor cleaner involves no complicated levers or buttons to change between dry and wet cleaning. A simple one step assembly is all that is required. Place the handle on the unit and insert one screw to secure it in place. After filling the clean tank with water and solution you are ready to clean. Plus, the lightweight cleaner's low-profile head easily accesses hard-to-reach spaces and corners under beds, couches, and other furniture.
The Bissell Story Bissell's history dates back to the mid-1800s in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Anna and Melville Bissell owned a small crockery shop. While cleaning up one day, Anna grew frustrated with the sawdust in the carpet. After she presented the problem to Melville, he designed and constructed the company's first carpet sweeper, which subsequently was patented in 1876. Following Melville Bissell's death in 1889, Anna Bissell became America's first female corporate CEO. The Bissell company has evolved into a leader in carpet cleaning, introducing one of the first carpet shampooers in 1956, as well as the Big Green Clean Machine in 1992 and the Spot Lifter in 1998. Throughout the company's history, it has continually focused on redefining the concept of clean with a large family of innovative cleaning products.

Bissell Zing Bagged Canister Vacuum, 22Q3 Review

Bissell Zing Bagged Canister Vacuum, 22Q3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this Bissell Zing (black color). This Zing is only $49.99 free shipping from Amazon. I got it today and love it for its quality and powerful suction. This model is similar to Bissell older model 6800-1, which I owned and used every other day for almost 10 years. Its motor finally died. Zing is better than 6800-1 because suction is adjustable. I have wooden floor so lowest setting is enough to do the job. When i turn it all the way up, the 11" nozzle suck onto the floor very strongly, excellent for carpet, I think. I do not have carpet in my house. I recommend Zing Black highly.

Bissell 5770 Healthy Home Bagless Upright Vacuum Review

Bissell 5770 Healthy Home Bagless Upright Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
UPDATE : 2/11/09 See Note Below if you own this unit...
I purchased this as a replacement for a Dyson DC-15 Animal. The Dyson had a high pitched noise that gave both my wife and I a headache. I found I could vacuum with an IPOD on loud, and she could manage it with earplugs. After giving 2 DC-15's a try I started my vacuum search again bought the 5770.
The Good:
1). This vacuum is a great value when compared to the Dyson.
2). The suction is just as good or better than most Dyson's (a sales guy told me the DC-17 has slightly more, but both are great). When vacuuming after the DC-15 the Bissell picked up more stuff. I noticed that the first vacuum with the DC-15 got a bunch of junk out my carpet, but after that it was just a little... This picked up as much dirt as the DC-15 did originally, so I was impressed.
3). It comes standard with the turbo brush, and all the small tools you need. The standard brush attachment is really pretty cool as it is a standard long bristle brush, but then can pull apart and become a short bristle brush in case you need to really scrub something.
4). The hose is great. It's flexible and actually reaches to the top of the stairs (unlike the Dyson).
5). The front end is low to get into short spaces below furniture etc. and it does have a headlight. I thought the headlight was no big deal, but when the extra long cord allowed me to vacuum into a dark room the headlight actually helped out.
6). You can turn the beater brush on and off with a touch of a button. When you stand the unit up it automatically shuts off. The brush also has a separate motor. The Brush is very stiff, like a Dyson, but the bristles are shorter, I believe this makes it easier on your carpet. The Dyson started pulling up lose carpet fibers from the edges of my carpet, I think, because of the longer bristle brush. The Bissell seems to be gentler on my carpet but at the same time it makes the carpet fibers stand right up and look like new. It also has a height adjustment, which, depending on your point of view, is a good thing.
7). It's Quiet! You can actually talk to someone while vacuuming. Don't get me wrong it's still a vacuum, there is still noise, but it's a lower muffled sound that is easy to listen to.
The Bad:
1). It's Heavy! In fact, we almost returned this unit and started looking for something else that would work for us. We ended up keeping the unit, but we took a good couple of days vacuuming the house and thinking it over. Half jokingly I said let's think of this as an exercise machine that just happens to clean the house!
I would recommend taking some time to test this in the store, pushing it around on some carpet (with a pad) like you have at home to get a true feeling for it. Initially (after the wonderfully easy to maneuver DC-15 Ball) it seemed really heavy. After a few days we're used to it and it doesn't seem bad at all.
2). Bissell got the dirt canister wrong, Dyson wins this battle. The canister is in a slight "V" shape so lots of dirt on the top of the pile must somehow compact a bit to fit through a smaller area on the bottom, kind of like going through a funnel. Water flows nicely through a funnel... Dirt does not. The release button is not right on top, like the dyson, so it's a two handed deal to hold the canister and then press the button to release the dirt. Next, the trap door at the bottom is not spring loaded, like the dyson, so it may or may not open, so you might need to flick it open with your finger. The trick with your finger may or may not get you dusty, because the dirt may not just dump out because the nice "V" shape of the unit keeps it in place, maybe this is a good feature? Joking aside, this really could be improved and I hope Bissell does this on future models because it really is a great vacuum.
I justified this dirt canister problem by comparing it to the Dyson... Fluffy stuff (hair, carpet fibers etc.) would get stuck in their dust bin as well, not as much, but it happened. Also, after a few uses the little holes in the inside bottom part of the cyclone clog up so it's a messy job to clean that up. The bottom line here is I think you empty the canister a little more often and your fine, but the nature of either beast is that you're going to have some dirty work ahead of you at some point. It's just the price you pay for superior suction.
Hope this helps!
Update 2/11/09:
Just under the two year mark the brush started to get noisey and smell. Unlike a vacuum from the old days you can't just throw in a new brush and belt. I called Bissell and they had me send the unit back and sent me a refurbished unit.
The Bad: Being a 'Mr. Fixit' kind of guy, I took this apart prior to calling Bissell. (I didn't remember there was a 2 year warranty). The brush bearing cap on one end was worn and the plastic started to melt. There is are mounting/stabilization points near the belt and these were badly worn/melted as well. You cannot fix these mounting points as they are part of the top and bottom of the unit. I have no idea what this would cost to replace, but I'd guess a lot. This seems to be a bad design. Maybe I just had a bad brush, but I don't think so...
The Key is to find the problem prior to the mounting points being destroyed. They do have a bushing that looks like it can be replaced so this should save big $$ on a repair.
What you should do: If you own this unit, or are thinking about buying one, about once a month do the following:
1. Flip the unit over to expose the brush.
2. Remove the junk that gets stuck in the brush.
3. Grab the brush on one end and try to move it up and down or side to side. The brush should be solid and only move round and round.
4. Repeat step 3 on the other side.
Note: If you can move the brush it's starting to go bad. Call Bissell to find the nearest repair facility if your out of warranty. If you're in warranty they'll replace it for you.
I got my refurbed unit today, it works great!

Bissell 2X Natural Orange Extract Advanced Formula, 24 Ounces, 83P3 Review

Bissell 2X Natural Orange Extract Advanced Formula, 24 Ounces, 83P3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I can only give this solution a 3 star rating because it gave my dog such a bad allergic reaction that we were really worried. I've always used the pet solution, which I'm sure is marketed for its ability to remove pet odors and not because it's "pet friendly" necessarily, but this is the first time I've used a different variety and it was horrible for our dog. He's 110 lbs and within a couple hours of letting him back onto the dry carpet, he broke out in huge red welts all over, to the point that they were bleeding... around his eyes, mouth, stomach, in his ears. It was really really bad. We had to give him 5 Benadryl just to get him to stop scratching his face off. I ended up cleaning my carpet again the next day with just water to get as much of this solution out of the carpet as possible.
As for the scent, it is very mild. I was hoping for a more "orangey" scent too, but it does smell nice and if it weren't for the allergic reaction, I'd keep using it.

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum, 87B4 Review

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum, 87B4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This vacuum worked great for the first week. Wonderful, actually, and had I written this review then I am sure I would have given it five stars. However, after the first two weeks the problems began. I must admit, when deciding which vacuum to purchase I read many reviews, including the negative reviews for this vacuum, and did not heed them. I wish I had listened now. But having two indoor dogs (one of which sheds quite a bit) I thought this vacuum would be a good fit (I was wrong of course).
After the first week the trouble started with all the dust, dirt, and dog hair the vacuum picked up being piled up at the very top of the vacuum's inside (where I'd have to take the front part of the vacuum apart and take out the top part to get it all out. This is very messy, and I thought this alone was bad enough -now I have to do this every time I use this vacuum (on the rare occassion this vacuum actually picks up anything).
After the second week or so the tiny drawer on the bottom (I forget what these are called) started accumulating all the dust and dog hair, and the vacuum picked up nothing else besides what it could cram in this little drawer.
Now, after about a month or so of owning it, this vacuum picks up nothing. It has lost all suction. when I turn the vacuum over the tube that is supposed to suck all the dog hair and dust up is crammed full of my yellow lab's hair mixed with dust. When I try to get it all out (again, extremely messy) it still doesn't pick up much at all. I have checked again and again for clogs and gotten them out again and again, and it still doesn't help this vacuum. It is ridiculous.
My vacuum is perpetually on RED, which I have to tell you is the most annoying thing EVER. I have owned many vacuums in my life. And the Dirt Devil this vacuum replaced lasted me for almost 5 years and even at the end of it's life worked better than this piece of crap vacuum is today after only one month of use.
Soooo, buyer beware. If you've read this review you've been warned. This is the most high maitenance vacuum I have ever used in my life. It has lasted in my house (with two dogs) for a total of one month and a week and a half.
I will be getting a new vacuum soon, because even though I think it's ridiculous that I should have to pay for another vacuum so soon, I like having a clean house and a clean carpet. You have been warned. And I will never buy a Bissell product again.

Bissell OptiClean Cyclonic Canister Vacuum, Bagless, 66T61 Review

Bissell OptiClean Cyclonic Canister Vacuum, Bagless, 66T61
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This unit has so far proven that it is both quiet and not entirely effective. In the past I have both owned and have been very pleased with Bissell products. On this particularly occasion I do not find myself sitting in that corner of improvement.
On each of my area rugs this unit takes several passes to pick up the most mild of materials. I have three large rugs of varying depth and material to provide an excellent range of a testing base. On the hardwood floors it does more to collect debris in the head of the unit rather than actually pull objects into the deposit container. If transitioning from floor to carpet this results in the debris being deposited onto the rug. Several passes later it will eventually collect what the deposits it left behind.
On the positive outlook the unit itself is fairly quiet and the attachments are of good quality construction. While the vacuum is an affordable option I would advise against the purchase.

This was touted as being good for picking up pet hair. I run a cat rescue organization and used it on hard surfaces with lots and lots of cat fur. It worked no better than the average broom I buy at the dollar store. It is also very heavy and the bristles are so stiff they won't get into corners or tight places very well. For the price, you can buy a dozen brooms at the dollar store over time and get better results.

Bissell Pawsitively Clean Yikes Compact Deep Cleaner Review

Bissell Pawsitively Clean Yikes Compact Deep Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I rent a Rug Doctor every few months to handle cleaning my sofa & cow hide rug from my 4 cats. I was skeptical since the reviews said that this didn't actually suck up the water, but it does just as good a job as a Rug Doctor.- Meaning it leaves things wet, but yields a water tank full of dirty water. You have to make sure everything is put together correctly and that the chamber the water empties into is shut tight in order to make a vaccum seal. I hope to be able to use this on other upholstery, the blinds, and for cleaning the bed. The only thing preventing me is the hose length.
The pros: it's smaller and quieter than the Rug Doctor; it doesn't need anti-foam liquid to work; it heats water and has bristles (unlike the RD)- which is great for fluffing up the texture on the microfiber couch.
Cons: It needs a longer hose to reach the back of the couch; it has a clunky holder for the tools that makes it look poorly designed; it can't get serviced after every use like the Rug Doctor, so I hope it lasts a while.
I vowed to never buy another Bissell when my first hand-held wet vac died after a couple uses. So I am surprised this one is feeling like it's going to last. We'll see. I just go it today and I'll update this when I have my first problem.

Bissell Powerforce Bagless Upright Review

Bissell Powerforce Bagless Upright
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I researched online but using online comparison tools, also visited several stores (Kohls, Sam's Club, Target, Walmart, etc.) to get a good look and feel for a vacuum.
I was willing to spend up to $120 for a decent vacumm to replace my Hoover - Hepa WindTunnel Bagless model (which started scretching and stinking up the house) before I finally got annoyed with it and threw it out.
The Bissel PowerForce Turbo is, in my opinion, the best deal for the relatively low price of $68 plus tax. Last week I vacuumed and steam cleaned my carpets. Yesterday I vacuumed for the first time with the PowerForce Turbo and I could not believe the stuff that was pulled out from the rugs. Not just dirt and dog hair, but also carpet room deodorizer which was sprinkled on the carpets weeks ago!
The easy empty container is easily removable and washable; the cord is 30 feet long (no need to unplug and replug); the headlight gives you a better view; bagless feature is a must (who would want a vacuum with a bag now a days anyway...); and the vacuum is relatively quiet and lightweight.
Now with all these pros, you would think that there is a con. NOT AT ALL. The only feature my old Hoover had that the Bissell did not have was the dirt sensor, which, I believe is not worth a dime anyway. The Bissell picked up MORE dirt, hair, and who knows what else that the twice as expensive Hoover did not - although the Hoover's dirt sensor indicated a clean carpet.
So, all in all, if you want a GREAT vacuum without spending $200 go with the Bissell PowerForce Turbo model. So far, I am glad I did!!

Bissell PowerClean Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum, 16N54 Review

Bissell PowerClean Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum, 16N54
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Bissell Powerclean Multi Cyclonic has a lot going for it but one thing it really struggles with is accommodating carpets and rugs of varying types. The wheels that control the ride height of the brush head are too small, the roller brush has short, very stiff bristles and is driven by a separate motor that bogs down easily. All this combines to make the Powerclean very sensitive to the density and pile height of the carpet. If your home has several carpet types or rugs you need to vacuum then don't buy this model unless you enjoy constantly reaching down to adjust the carpet height setting.
Ergonomics and handling aren't great either. It's a bit hefty, the rubber rear wheels are a hindrance on carpet and the handle has to be lowered almost all the way to the floor to lift up the front end.
On the plus side the dual stage cyclone system seems to do a good job capturing fine particles and dust which should keep HEPA filter changes to a minimum. Overall build quality seems pretty good, the dirt canister assembly appears to stay well sealed. The accessory hose and power cord are fairly long but not so long as to be a nuisance. The ability to turn off the roller brush is nice bit it appears to come at a price.
A word about "suction". This model can develop relatively high vacuum pressure at zero flow. That's good for lifting bowling balls (Oreck commercial) and seems impressive when you stick the accessory hose against your hand, but it's not what cleans carpets. To pull the dirt from the floor and into the vacuum cleaner you need air flow and the more air you move the harder it is to maintain vacuum pressure. Without going into an overly detailed explanation of how vacuum cleaners work, it should suffice to say that under typical operating conditions, this Bissell has about as much "suction" as my old $70 Hoover with a fresh bag. It's adequate, but not astonishing. To be fair I should note that my old Hoover doesn't provide anything near the level of filtration that the Bissell does.

I purchased the Bissel after purchasing one of the name brand bagless ones. The competitor's brand clogged brand new out of the box at the top and bottom and blew more dust and debris around than it picked up. I decided I would go back to the old way, an upright vacum with a bag; so I purchased the Bissel Powerforce upright.I have owned other Bissel products and have always been satisfied. I received the new Bissel upright; I was skeptical because it doesn't look like your grandmother's vacum; but it had a bag so I gave it a try. I love it so far; I have even used it with my dryer cleaner kit and the suction was great. it pulled the clogged lint right out and my dryer was hot again and my carpets are clean again.

I recently bought a Proheat machine to clean my (I'm ashamed to say)filthy carpets. I liked the fact that it heats the water, has a powerful brush, and can apply Scotchagrd. When it arrived at my door I couldn't wait to get it out of the box and give it a try. I did take the time to read the manual based on advice from some other reviewers, but I was busy cleaning my carpet in no time. The water was so dirty- I had to save it to show my husband. Neither of us could believe how clean our carpets looked, almost brand new. I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but this cleaner is so amazing that I wanted to share my experience with everyone. Anyone with carpet in their home needs one of these. It's worth every penny.
